The Old Town Square is the oldest square in Prague, the centrepiece of the historic centre. It is surrounded by a great many historic buildings – the most important are the Old Town Hall with its famous Astronomical Clock (Orloj) and the Church of Our Lady before Týn. The middle of the Square is dominated by a national monument to Jan Hus.

  • Note the magnificent mansions and the classicist Estates Theatre on the way from Rytířská ulice, where the Blue Rose hotel is located, to the Old Town Square.
Charles Bridge

Charles Bridge

The famous Charles Bridge is the oldest bridge in Prague and connects the Old Town with Malá Strana. The bridge was built of sandstone blocks and fortified with towers on both its ends. 30 statues of saints were installed on the pillars of the bridge; the most famous is the statue of St. John of Nepomuk.  The Charles Bridge was the only bridge over the Vltava River in Prague until 1845. 

  • The pleasant walk from Hotel Modrá růže**** to the Charles Bridge takes 10 minutes. The easiest way is through the Old Town Square and it continues through the picturesque streets of Old Prague.

National Theatre is one of the most important buildings in the country both in the national-cultural and architectural terms. The National Theatre was first opened in 1881; however, in the midst of finishing work, there was a massive fire which destroyed the theatre copper dome, the auditorium and stage. The fire was considered a national disaster and caused immense resolve for new collections, so the National Theatre was re-opened in autumn 1883.

  • Be sure to stop for breakfast or lunch at the Cafe Louvre, a favourite place of celebrities since 1902, in the Národní street where the National Theatre is located.

Prague Castle is the most visited monument in the Czech Republic and one of the most important cultural institutions. The traditional seat of Czech rulers is also the seat of the president since 1918. Gradual additions and renovations of the Prague Castle made it one of the largest castles in the world, consisting of historical palaces, religious buildings and gardens. It is also inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

  •  The easiest way to the Prague Castle from the Blue Rose hotel is by tram no. 22 from the Národní třída stop. It takes approximately 20 minutes.
